The Lorry That Should Not Have Been There: Why Cloud Storage Changes Everything

Most people think about CCTV in real time. Something happens, you check the camera, you see what happened. That is the obvious use case. But some of the most valuable footage is the kind you do not know you need until weeks after it was recorded.

This happened with one of our clients. They had a Safety Eye unit on a transport yard during a hire period. The hire finished, the unit came back. Several weeks later, a dispute came up about a lorry that had entered the yard on a specific date. The question was whether it had been authorised to do so.

The footage was still there

Because all recordings during the hire period had been going to the cloud, the footage from that date was retrievable. The client was able to pull up exactly what had happened, on that day, at that time, weeks after the event. The lorry had entered the site. It had not been authorised. There was the evidence.

That is the kind of thing that resolves disputes quickly and saves a lot of back and forth. Without the cloud recording, that footage would have been gone.

How the dual storage works

Every Safety Eye hire includes recording to both the local unit and the cloud. The local drive means you have footage even if there is a brief connectivity issue. The cloud means the footage exists independently of the physical unit, so even after the hire has ended, the recordings from that period are available.

This has practical value beyond dispute resolution. Insurance claims, health and safety incidents, access monitoring, contractor accountability. Any situation where you need to be able to say with confidence what happened on a site on a given date is a situation where cloud storage matters.

What to do if you need past footage

If you had a Safety Eye unit on site during a relevant period and need to access historic footage, get in touch directly and we will help you retrieve what you need. We keep client recordings for 30 days from the date of capture.

And if you are planning a hire and want to make sure you have this kind of cover in place from the start, it is already included as standard. There is nothing extra to set up. Every hire records to the cloud throughout.
